Beautifully Painted Trash Cans Will Encourage Beach-Goers To Clean Up Area Beaches

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Our beaches in Brevard are beautiful, and “Creative Cans In the Sand” is determined to keep them that way.

Hundreds of thousands visit our beaches regularly, unfortunately some of them leave more than their footprints behind.

Bobby and Nikki Freeman

“It’s just amazing that a little post on Facebook about a painted beach trash can has taken off like a rocket, and now turned into a huge community event,” said co-founder and RE/MAX Elite Realtor Bobby Freeman.

The Creative Cans In the Sand initiative was organized this month by Freeman and his wife Nikki, and the program is being endorsed and embraced by many volunteers, local artists, businesses – and the City of Cocoa Beach has expressed their intent to help out in any way possible.

“Our beach is our greatest resource and we must preserve and maintain it for the benefit of all our residents and visitors,” said Ben Malik Cocoa Beach City Commissioner.

“This will be a great project for the entire community to get involved in to raise awareness to please keep our beaches clean.”

The Creative Cans In the Sand mission is to help encourage beach-goers to dispose of their trash responsibility, and with the hopes that the more noticeable artistically painted cans will result in a cleaner, more litter-free beach.

Tony Sasso

“Anything that involves kids, art and beautification I think is a great idea,” said Tony Sasso, Executive Director of Keep Brevard Beautiful.

“Keep Brevard Beautiful is definitely behind this great effort,” said Sasso.

Organizers are now working out the details and are asking the community for their ideas on the messages on the trash cans.

Some of the slogans that have been suggested so far include “Respect Our Beach,” “Footprints Only, Trash Goes Here,” and “Please Help Keep Our Beach Clean.”
